How can we help?
There are several steps to becoming a licensed producer (LP) within the Canadian cannabis industry. Every company or person who grows or processes cannabis commercially needs a Health Canada licence. Growing “commercially” includes both medical and recreational cannabis. Most LPs also require a Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) licence in order to sell cannabis to wholesalers or medical patients.
Dig a Little Deeper
Canada legalized cannabis for medical use and later recreational use. Expert recommendations outlined a strictly regulated system to protect Canadians. This was to:
- Ensure all cannabis sold is safe for human consumption
- Ensure cannabis would not be diverted to the illegal market
- Provide transparency within the industry
Health Canada created its licensed producer (LP) system to meet these objectives.
